THE MISSION

WELCOME!

Hey, I'm Shera — founder of Strange Fitness, certified Health Coach, and a Personal Trainer, and a Black woman over 55, living proof that this season of life is not the end of anything. It is actually just getting good.


I have always believed in taking care of my body. But I also know firsthand that believing in something and actually doing it — especially when your body is changing, life is shifting, and nobody around you is talking about what you're really going through — are two very different things.


I've had to navigate my own health challenges, figure out what works for this body at this age, and push back against every message that told me I should just slow down, accept it, and be quiet about it.

I refused. And Strange Fitness was born from that refusal.


I have been in the fitness and wellness industry for over 20 years. I have worked with all kinds of people — and I have had the privilege of walking alongside some incredible women through some of life's most intense moments. I once coached a client who was fighting cancer. She not only came out on the other side — she went on to get pregnant and give birth naturally. I don't take lightly what it means to be trusted with someone's health journey. Not for one second.


But here's what I want you to know most: I am not here to make this complicated. I am not here to overwhelm you with a program that doesn't fit your real life. I meet you exactly where you are — no judgment, no comparison, no "you should have started sooner." We start right now, right here, with what you've got. And we build from there in simple, practical, and actually sustainable ways.


We're talking about learning how to shop for food that loves you back. Cooking in a way that doesn't feel like a chore. Moving your body in ways that feel good — not like punishment. Sleeping better. Stressing less. Understanding what menopause is actually doing to your body and finally having someone explain it in plain English.


At Strange Fitness, we don't do ageism. We don't do shame. We don't do "you're too old for that." We do community. We do real talk. We do celebration — of every stage, every body, every woman who walks through this door and decides she is worth showing up for.

This space was built for you. And I am so glad you found it.

The Reason Behind The Mission

I don't just coach from a textbook. I coach from experience — real experience. The kind that starts with hitting rock bottom and deciding enough is enough.


In 2000, I was 5'4" and weighed 220 pounds. I was diagnosed with Type II Diabetes, high blood pressure, and high cholesterol — all at once. I had heel spurs. My hip was in constant pain from carrying extra weight my body wasn't built to hold. I was not okay, and I knew it.


But knowing it and doing something about it? That's two different things. I tried. I struggled. And honestly, it wasn't until I lost two people very close to me — both gone too soon because of preventable, health-related illness — that something in me shifted for real. I looked at their lives, I looked at my diagnosis, and I made a decision. I was not going to be next. That decision changed everything.

I threw myself into fitness, nutrition, and learning everything I could about how the body works — and how to make it work better. I earned my certifications in personal training, group fitness instruction, health coaching, and indoor cycling. I studied anatomy, kinesiology, exercise physiology, exercise psychology, fitness assessments, stress testing, and athletic training. I even competed as an amateur triathlete. I was not playing around.


Over the years, I have gained and lost over 60 pounds. I say that openly because I want you to know — I am not standing here pretending this is easy. I know what it feels like to fight for your health. I know what it feels like when your body doesn't cooperate. And I know what it feels like to come out on the other side feeling strong, clear, and alive. That is what I want for you.


For over 20 years, I have worked with a wide range of people — men, women, seniors, new moms, pre- and post-gastric bypass patients, post-hysterectomy women, minor league baseball players, and people living with MS, stroke, Lupus, Fibromyalgia, and cancer. I specialize in HIIT and Tabata training, circuit and strength training, cardiovascular conditioning, boot camp, core and functional training, mat Pilates, and indoor cycling.

I have delivered lectures and workshops nationally on fitness, nutrition, and motivation. And through all of it — every client, every class, every stage of my own journey — my purpose has never changed:
